The Crew

The crew on Abracadabra will from time-to-time include sailors making guest appearances.  Those "guest stars" will be introduced in blog posts.  The core crew is introduced here.

Molly Arnold

We have each sailed for about twenty years, most of that on the San Francisco Bay near our home in Sacramento, California.  The switch to sailing on our own boat has made us even more grateful to those friends who have been kind enough to let us sail on their boats over the years.  So perhaps this is as good a place as any to say:  "Wow, thanks.  We now get that being boat owners really does involve a lot more than paying for the post-sail beers!!  Y'all (you know who you are) are welcome on Abracadabra any time."

Bryce  is a Canadian-American, born and raised in Peterborough County, Ontario in the beautiful little village of Lakefield -- about 150 kilometers east of Abracadabra's birthplace in Brampton, Ontario.  Bryce worked for twenty-five years on several continents as an aerial survey photographer, navigator and project manager before growing weary of too much time away from home.  After a year-long retraining process he became an information technology analyst for the State of California's housing finance agency.  Ten years later he is a retired civil servant captaining Abracadabra.

Molly is an Okie who traveled to California to go to law school and stayed.  She practiced law for thirty years, primarily in the area of public finance for the State of California and she doesn't ever want to think about another bond opinion now that she's retired -- she wants to travel on Abracadabra.  Enough so that she's wiling to take the occasional order from Bryce!

We met in 1988 in Ujung Pandang (now called Makassar), South Sulawesi, Indonesia.  Bryce was working on an aerial survey project and Molly was on sabbatical from her law practice.  Travel is very much in our partnership DNA.  Over the subsequent twenty-odd years we have traveled as much as our careers have permitted, spending a lot of time in Mexico and bareboat chartering in some lovely places (Croatia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the British Virgins and the Gulf Islands in Beautiful British Columbia).  We are now traveling on Abracadabra to Mexico and thereafter . . . wherever the winds take us.
